In this form of Interpretation, the interpreter listens and translates in real time what the speaker is saying. At the same time, the interpreter must be listening to the next sentence and be prepared to translate that as well. To get the exact meaning of what the speaker is saying, the interpreter must have good memory and the ability to listen well. This method is the one mostly chosen for meetings, trade shows and international conferences.

How does a Translation System for Meetings work? 

The main speaker delivers his speech through a microphone in the ‘floor’ (or source) language.

Interpreters can be positioned at the back of the room, in a separate room or in a booth specially designated for that purpose. They listen to the main speaker using headsets and translate in real time the speech into the designated language (also known as target language.)

The interpreter’s voice is broadcast to the audience using a transmitter. Each member of the audience wears a receiver and a headset, allowing them to receive the transmission in their native language.
